Richmond Hill, ON, May 5, 2009 - Grandview Children’s Centre (Grandview) located in Oshawa ON, required better management and improved security for their expanding patient records. Microdea‘s first task was to convert two older systems into one accessible framework and then implement their Synergize™ Document Automation solution.
“We had two older systems that were very unstable and no longer supported by their vendors. Microdea’s Synergize provided a cost-effective way for Grandview to consolidate both databases into one and put us one step closer to an electronic health record environment,” said Jamie Smalley, IT Manager, Grandview Children’s Centre.
Microdea integrated Synergize with Grandview’s current clinical application, WinCIS by Momentum. Synergize integrates, captures and retrieves data, allowing for consistent and fast indexing of patient charts. Grandview staff now has immediate and secure access to electronic patient charts from both Synergize and WinCIS by Momentum.
“Grandview is supporting a growing region with increased requests for services. Currently Grandview annually serves about 4,500 children and youth with special needs and our capacity for storing these records is being stretched to the limit,” said Kris Novak, Clinical Information Services Manager, Grandview Children’s Centre.
Legislation requires Grandview to retain patient records for ten years years after the client’s 18th birthday. Managing, tracking and storing these paper records created long-term storage issues and privacy concerns.
Since the records department is now in the process of converting paper files to electronic format, records storage will utilize less office space. In addition, Synergize enables Grandview to meet their regulatory compliance requirements and commitment to client privacy
