Workflow

Workflow is designed to route information (documents, images, electronic transactions) through a gauntlet of tasks. Workflow tends to route tasks in sequence or in parallel from one task in the workflow to another. Business rules tend to be focused on alerting a user that a deadline has been missed or some other threshold has been crossed. Users are left to do the heavy lifting. Workflow is important and a vital part of BPM.

BPM

BPM offers tools such as a business rules engine (BRE) and system-to-system connectors (Enterprise Application Integration – EAI) and it can actually complete the task without human interaction. BPM starts with an end-to-end business process view. Well organized BPM projects don’t enter into dialogues about tools until the project is on track and customer-centric deliverables have been defined in process terms
