What is Document Imaging?

Digital Images captured during the scanning process provide business users with immediate access to information that they can now manage and process. Once a document is in digital format, users can e-mail, fax, print and post it to a Web site for viewing.

What can I use to scan documents?

Today most businesses that have paper intensive processes are using commercial grade scanners from such vendors as Kodak and Fujitsu. These vendors completely understand the paper scanning and the details involved. Other traditional copier vendors have been positioning their Multi Function Products (MFP) as a document scanning utility.

What format are the digital images?

Today, most capture and scanning software converts the paper image to an industry standard file format called Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) which is generally seen as a common output from fax servers. Other file formats such as Portable Document Format (PDF) are becoming more common as users are accepting the use of Adobe® viewer.

How do I manage digital images?

Document Management Systems (DMS) provide the foundation for the management of the files you have just captured. Without the DMS, files would be saved to hard drives where naming conventions and permission-based rules are weak and hard to adhere to. DMS provide the foundation for managing documents whether they are TIFF's, Word, Excel, CAD and HTML formats.

What are the benefits of scanning and imaging documents?

  2. Reduce distribution costs- lower operating costs
