2008: Market Volatility Continues
• Mutual fund assets per capita in constant dollars fell from $17,341 at the
end of 2007 to $13,339 at the end of 2008.
• Long-term fund estimated market effect totaled -$133 billion at the end of
December 2008. Long-term fund assets fell by 25.2% from the end of 2007.
• Historic levels of exchange rate volatility, equity market volatility and credit
market volatility contributed to the decline in long-term fund assets under
management in 2008.
